No pressure or anything, but you’ve just been asked to deliver a quote that will live beside your name forever and likely it hasn't even crossed your mind.
You probably thought that taking your yearbook picture was hard enough. Now, on top of that, you have to choose a quote to go under your picture that will be in your yearbook for all to see. How do you go about choosing the best quote that fits you? So many things are racing through your mind - You don’t want to have a boring quote, a meaningless quote, or one that offends people. Here's a few ideas and tips to help you decide on the perfect quote.
Wanna Be Funny?
Do you find yourself always making others laugh? If you answered yes to both of these questions, you may want to think about having a “funny” quote. Having a “funny” quote will fit your humorous personality. Whenever your peers look through the yearbook and read your quote, they will know for sure that this quote was made for you.
Use Memes. The internet if full of ever-evolving inside jokes that are perfectly adaptable to your senior yearbook quote.
Use Out of Context Quotes. “ You can make up anything you want on the internet” -Abraham Lincoln
Partner Up.
Share the same last name with someone? Do a two-part Q&A or put two statements together for a larger more ridiculous quote.
Wanna Be Inspirational?
Are you the type of person that has a desire to motivate and encourage people to be their very best? If so, then you need a quote that will inspire people. Find a quote that makes you feel the power to succeed, and chances are, someone else will feel the same when they read that quote under your yearbook photo!
Look to the Past.
You’ve been taught all kinds of things about all kinds of people. Fond of English? Authors you may have read are full of great lines.
Scan Pop Culture.
What’s been going on in the news lately? Celebrities, politicians and athletes are always giving interviews and say some surprisingly deep things. Show off your knowledge by quoting them!
Wanna Be Classic?
Use your favorite artist or movie. You can’t go wrong with using a lyric from one of your favorite songs or a quote from one of your all-time favorite movies as your yearbook quote. If you relate to it (and it is not offensive!), it could be the perfect quote for you. Lyrics from songs are a great form of expression, and quotes from movies really stand out in one’s mind. Both can be a mixture of inspiration and humor.
Go Vintage.
Remember that montage in 500 Days of Summer? Summer used an old Belle & Sebastian song and inexplicably caused a spike in album sales? There are still many great old songs that are under utilized in yearbook quotes.
Go There.
There’s nothing wrong with quoting Ghandi or Marilyn Monroe, in fact they’re pretty awesome. Try looking for a more underutilized quote from some of our most idealized stars.
